Privacy policy
What we collect, and why.
We ask only for what we need to build your website, and only our team sees it. We don't sell it to anyone.
Who we are
Website in a Day is a service of SilverServers Inc., a web design and hosting company in Kamloops, British Columbia. When this policy says “we”, it means us.
For any question about your information, or to see, correct or delete it, email support@silverservers.com or call (236) 425-4400.
When you apply for a website
The form at Start your website asks for:
- your name, email address and phone number;
- your business's details, such as its address, phone, email and social media accounts, and what it does;
- what you want on your website: its pages and their words, its look, its features, its domain name and your build day;
- any files you choose to upload, such as your logo and photos.
We save each answer as you go, so nothing is lost if you stop partway. It also means our team can see an application before it's finished, so we can help you finish it.
We use all of this to plan and build your website, and to contact you about it by email or text message, as you agreed on the form.
Your application has a reference number, which opens it again on any device. Keep it to yourself: anyone who has it can see and change your answers. Your browser remembers the number, and where you were, so you don't have to type it in again. On a shared computer, press Clear on the start page when you're done.
To stop the form being flooded, we also keep a scrambled code made from your internet address with your application. It can't be turned back into the address.
When you send us a message
The contact form sends us your name, your email, your phone number if you give it, and your message. With them we keep the internet address and browser the message came from, which help us spot spam. The message reaches our inbox by email, and a copy is kept in our website's admin. We use it to reply to you.
When you visit
- Our server's records. Like every website's, our server records each request: the internet address it came from, the page, the time and the browser. We use these records only to keep the site running and secure.
- Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages help people. It sets cookies, and it tells Google which pages you view, how you arrived, what kind of device and browser you use, and roughly where you are. It never runs on your application's pages, so your answers and reference number never reach Google. To turn it off, use your browser's settings or Google's opt-out add-on.
- The video. The video on our home page is YouTube's, in its privacy-enhanced mode, and nothing comes from YouTube until you press play. Then your browser connects to YouTube, and YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
- Cookies. Our own pages set none for visitors. The only cookies are Google Analytics', and YouTube's once you play the video.
Who sees it
Only our team: the SilverServers staff who build and support Website in a Day sites. Everything you send us through this site is stored on our own servers in Kamloops.
We don't sell your information. We share it only:
- with Google and YouTube, as described above, under their own privacy policies. Both may process it outside Canada, including in the United States;
- with our email provider, which delivers our email, including the notices our team gets when you apply or write to us;
- with the domain registry, if you ask us to register a domain name for you, since it needs the owner's name and contact details;
- when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep an application, its files and our notes about it while we build and look after your website, and afterwards as part of our business records. An application that's never finished, we delete once it's clear it isn't going ahead. Messages we keep for as long as they help us answer you.
Ask us and we'll delete yours sooner, unless the law requires us to keep it.
Keeping it safe
Every page reaches you over an encrypted connection. Your application and your files are stored privately: they're never on a public page, and only our signed-in team can open them.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. You can also withdraw your consent to us contacting you at any time, though we may then be unable to build your website. We'll reply within 30 days.
We follow British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
